About
On November, 16, 1907, Oklahoma became the 46th state. Statehood had become a sure thing, in part due to a discovery which made Oklahoma the place to go to strike it rich; -- oil. People came from all parts of the world to seek their fortunes in Oklahoma's teeming oil fields. Cities like Tulsa, Ponca City, Bartlesville, and Oklahoma City flourished.
Oklahoma City is the wholesale and distributing center for the state, and the city's stockyards are the largest stocker and feeder cattle market in the world. Following the decline of the energy sector, Oklahoma City is fostering a private entrepreneurial environment and a more diversified economy. Within the service sector, health services are projected to grow, followed by retail trade and business services. Nearby Tinker Air Force Base, one of the world's largest air depots, is a major city employer.
Legendary attractions like the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum and the Myriad Botanical Gardens draw people when they stay in Oklahoma City. For the horsie-set, there’s world-class equine action at Remington Park racetrack. Wild adventures abound at the Oklahoma City Zoo. And, you can’t lose with the authentic sights, sounds and flavor of the Old West in Stockyards City. On a quiet note, since 1995, Oklahoma City residents have shown their mettle as a strong and united people. Through it all, Oklahoma City residents comprise a million friendly people who wouldn't live anywhere else.
